Students learn about Confederate flag during course

KENTWOOD, Ohio — Students in the College of Charleston class of 2021 will learn about the Confederate flag at the school’s commencement on Thursday.

In the course, students will learn the meaning of the Confederate battle flag and the Confederate symbols of the South, including the Battle of Liberty Place and the battle of Gettysburg.

They will also be introduced to the Confederacy’s founder, Robert E. Lee.

Students will also hear about Confederate leaders such as John C. Calhoun, a former U.S. senator, and the men and women who served in the U. S. Army during the Civil War.

The commencement is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Charleston’s Charleston Memorial Park.
